Blue Crarbs ummm

The Chesapeake Bay is all about crabs and their state of MD flag being proudly displayed

We had lunch here on Friday.  We ordered blue crabs and a selection of other seafood including shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams.  It was a delicious experience.
So Delicious an experience that we just had to try cooking the crabs on our own.
We bought 6 and the nice lady gave us seven.  We steamed them and seasonsed them with Old  Bay Seasoning.  They too were delicious.

Tyler, Jodi, Zach and Corbin visit July 10 to July 16

While they were here we visited Washington DC and went up Washington Monument. We also, got a chance to sail.
Zach became very comfortable walking around the boat.
Tyler always gets the wind to die.

Corbin is up front with Jodi.
It was a good visit and we rode back with them to Ohio to take care of some items.

We now are basing ourselves out of Herrington Harbour North in Deale, MD.
You can click on the Webcams of the marina and you might even see us.

Sailing from Deale MD to Annapolis MD.

We got a chance with the weather to make the journey to Annapolis. On the way we passed Thomas Point Lighthouse
Getting closer to Thomas Point Lighthouse
A very pretty lighthouse marking the entrance of the South River.
Ships anchor off of Annapolis. There is a designated anchorage.
Hundreds of boats were going out for races or an evening sail.
 Just another pretty sailboat
If you look close you can see a tall ship and the capital building.
Little kids being pulled back in after a race. These kids are 6 or 7 years old.
A Skipjack next to us putting the sails up and leaving. They do not have motors.
Pirate ship coming in to plunder. Zach and Corbin saw this from land when they were here.
 The harbor is gorgeous.
Evening comes, and it is beautiful.

We left the Solomons for a 40 natical mile trip to Herrington Marina. The cliffs on shore were interesting.
A lighthouse along the way guided us to our destination.
This is a docking station about a mile or so off shore for ships that will unload natural gas that we are importing. I did not know that we imported natural gas. I sure would not want to work on a boat carrying it.
One of three ships that passed us on our way.
You can see Mast Confusion through the flowers at Herrington Marina North
There are 600 slips here and most are sailboats.
Corbin and Zachary are coming Friday and they will enjoy the swing set and the pool.
They do a wonderful job making this place look nice with flowers and other features
Nice place to enjoy on shore with the boats in the background.

As you come into St; Mary's you see the statue given to the town in 1934.
It is a statue celibating 300 years of religion freedom.
Alice in Wonderland type mushrooms. We saw squirrels eating these.

The 3rd of July the Symphony was about to play. There were thousands of people. They had food stands with a variety of food.
Becky had a corned bread wrapped brat and I had a soft crab sandwich. The best I ever had.
A lot of boats came to listen to the music and watch the fireworks
Students at St. Mary's college enjoyed the day on the college sailboats

 or on stand up boards

Finally the fireworks started. You can hear the music in the background.
Here is the last two minutes of the fireworks
In the morning all the boats started to leave. We went from 50 boat to two.

Point Lookout Marina had a huge butterfly bush.
They also had free bikes that you could use. Too bad they all had flat tires.
We rode our bikes to the town of Ridge,MD  about 3 miles each way.
On the way back we stopped to have a beer and oysters at Courtney's. This is a step back in time. Mr. and Mrs. Courtney own and operate 12 months a year.   He catches the fish and oysters and she cooks them. Do not expect fast service, but the food and conversation was good.
 From the front.
Rated number one by travel advisor, but there are only 3.
Today we motored up St. Mary's River to St. Mary's City. Also the college of St. Mary's where these flowers were growing

If you look closely you can see our boat from the College boat house.
The Dove is docked here. It is a replica of a boat that brought early settlers to this area in the 1600's.
The first capital of Maryland was in St. Mary's city. Here you see one of the first kings.
This is inside the capital building.
 This is the capital building
This is what happens if you impersonate a public official.
Now we could tickle her feet.
You have to be careful what you say around here.
One of the many pretty windows in the capital building
Windvane at the top of the building
 The Dove up close.
Another tall ship, Sultana, right behind our anchorage.
